Greater Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Description: This large white cockatoo has a long forward-curving yellow crest, yellow on the underwing linings and in the base of the tail. Sometimes, the feathers of the cheeks are yellowish. Its beak is black. In the male, the eye is solid black and in the female it is red.

Similar species: There are up to a dozen kinds of Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and in aviculture, breeding pairs are not always pure. Well known subspecies of the Greater Sulphur-crested Cockatoo include the Triton (C. g. triton), Medium Sulphur-crested (Eleonoras- C. g. eleonora or Fitzroys- C. g. fitzroyi) and Lesser Sulphur-crested. Each varies slightly in size and basic features. Many cockatoo owners don't even know what subspecies they have.
