Description: This large white cockatoo has a long forward-curving
yellow crest, yellow on the underwing linings and in the base
of the tail. Sometimes, the feathers of the cheeks are yellowish.
Its beak is black. In the male, the eye is solid black and in
the female it is red.
Similar species: There are up to a dozen kinds of Sulphur-crested
Cockatoo and in aviculture, breeding pairs are not always pure.
Well known subspecies of the Greater Sulphur-crested Cockatoo
include the Triton (C. g. triton), Medium Sulphur-crested
(Eleonoras- C. g. eleonora or Fitzroys- C. g. fitzroyi)
and Lesser Sulphur-crested. Each varies slightly in size and basic
features. Many cockatoo owners don't even know what subspecies
they have.
