Painted Turtle
(Chrysemys picta)

Description: The Painted turtle has a smooth dark olive carapace and orange, yellow, and brown colors on plastron. The edges of plastron have a bright red, yellow, and green pattern. The body of the Painted turtle is dark olive green to black with yellow or red stripes. The feet of the Painted turtle are webbed an adaptation for a mostly aquatic lifestyle. The Painted turtle is a medium sized turtle with carapace length of 7”(male) and 9” (female). Males are distinguished from females because of their longer tails and longer front claws.
