Poison frogs

Poison frogs are terrestrial inhabitants of an area ranging from Nicaragua southward to Peru and Brazil.

Their vibrant coloring is an announcement to potential predators to steer clear. Their skin secretes a potent toxin, manufactured from alkaloids found in their favorite food–ants!

Local tribes use this poison to treat blowgun darts for use in hunting or warfare.
