Threatened Species
Description: Gorals are the smallest member of the bovid
subfamily called Caprinae which includes goats, sheep
and the “goat
antelope”.
They are halfway between true antelopes and true sheep and
goats. They are more heavily built and have broader hooves than
comparable sized antelopes. Female gorals have four teats, while
sheep and goats have only two.
Gorals are excellent climbers and jumpers.
They are found living on steep and barren slopes which gives them the edge for
escaping their predators.
Adult males weigh 62-93 pounds (28-42 kg);
females 49-77 pounds (22-35kg) and stand 20-31 inches high.
They live approximately 15 years.
