Chinese Goral

Chinese gorals are listed as vulnerable by the 2004 IUCN Redlist and are protected from trade by Appendix I of CITES. Gorals are threatened by over-hunting and poaching. Gorals are hunted for sport and for meat. The mountainous terrain in which they live is especially fragile and has become fragmented. Although there are less than 2,000 Chinese gray gorals in the wild, no field studies or in situ conservation efforts are in progress. Development of sound conservation and management measures depends on acquiring basic biological information about the species. Current preservation laws are beginning to help stabilize the wild populations.
