This pigeon is listed as Near Threatened by the 2000 IUCN Redlist
and is protected from trade under Appendix I of CITES. It has
a scattered distribution being found on small wooded islands in
the Indo-Australian region including Malaysia to the Solomon Islands
and the Nicobar Islands in Southeast Asia. Due to its isolated
distribution and preference for islands, it is highly vulnerable.
This pigeon has been under heavy hunting pressure as well as clearing
of its woodland habitat for timber and agriculture. Population
numbers continue to decline.
