Chilean pudu

The Chilean pudu is listed as endangered by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, as vulnerable on the IUCN Redlist and is protected from trade by CITES Appendix I. Their range has shrunk considerably in recent years due to logging and increased cattle ranching. They also are threatened by direct competition for food from introduced species of larger deer. The total wild population is believed to be less than 10,000 animals.
