This species is listed as endangered by both the USFWS and the
IUCN. It is protected from trade under Appendix I status by CITES.
Major threats to this species are habitat loss, poaching and capture
of young for the pet trade. Continued captive breeding is recommended
for this species to continue to expand the captive population
to target levels. Conservation programs in the wild for this species
are in dire need in order to protect the current wild population.
