Conservation—At the Zoo

Throughout the Minnesota Zoo, our staff members contribute to conservation. From the captive management programs we lead and participate in, to our green practices, conservation is at the heart of what we do.

Find out more about conservation at the Zoo:

Zoo-Post
Get your gardens ready for the season with Zoo-post, the most exotic compost available in Minnesota. Zoo-post is 100% composted animal manures mixed with yard waste from the grounds of the Minnesota Zoo.

Captive management
Zoos have captive management programs for numerous endangered and threatened species. These programs serve as a “genetic insurance policy” against extinction in the wild and also promote education, research, and protection of wild habitats.

Green Practices
In an effort to conserve natural resources and minimize waste, the Minnesota Zoo is incorporating “green” practices into its design and every day operations.
