Saturday, August 17, 2013, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Join us to hear Conservation Director Dr. Tara Harris share the latest updates on the Minnesota Zoo's conservation work in Africa. Tour the behind-the-scenes summer home of our giraffe, addax, bongo, wildebeest, ostrich, and guinea fowl, and ask the Africa keepers all your burning questions!
Rediscovering Local Wildlife Explorers ($500+)
Saturday, October 5, 2013, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Learn about the Zoo's new project to document the native wildlife living on the Zoo's undeveloped property, including songbirds, frogs, salamanders, dragonflies, butterflies, turtles, and mammals. We'll start with a presentation by BioDiscovery Project Coordinator Katie Talbott, followed by a nature walk to look for the Zoo's native inhabitants. You may see migratory birds as they head south, the last active insects of the season, and signs of many more species that call the Zoo home.

Wednesday, October 23, 2013, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Veterinarians and veterinary technicians work with all the animals at the Zoo—from lemurs to leopards. Meet with the Zoo's veterinary staff to learn about routine physical exams, diagnostic techniques, animal nutrition, treating illness, and quarantine procedures for new arrivals.
Soar with the Bird Show Voyagers ($250+)
Friday, November 15, 2013, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Tropical Open House Voyagers ($250+)
Wednesday, January 15, 2014, 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy a Tropical evening in January at this Tropics Trail open house! Admire the animals after hours, visit with keepers and volunteers, and test your zoo keeping skills with fun, hands-on activities. You can even take a guided tour with a Zoo horticulturist to learn how they care for the orchids, banana trees, and many other plants that provide such a beautiful backdrop for the animals.
Close Encounters of the Animal Kind Voyagers ($250+)
Monday, January 27, 2014, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
The Close Encounters program, which began in 2012 with the support of Minnesota's Clean Water, Land & Legacy Amendment, enriches the guest experience through scheduled Keeper Talks, training sessions, and appearances of special ambassador animals in the Zoo's public areas. Come learn about the Close Encounters program and meet some of its animal ambassadors up close!
Dive into Discovery Bay Voyagers ($250+)
Wednesday, March 5, 2014, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Why don't the sharks eat all the fish? How do we keep all that water clean? Just how many fish are in that tank, anyway? Learn the answers to these questions and more as we explore Discovery Bay with the Aquatics keepers.
Friends Farm Babies Voyagers ($250)
Monday, April 14, 2014, 4:15 – 7:00 p.m.
Join us for this special Friends-Only Farm Babies at the Wells Fargo Family Farm, without the crowds of a regular Zoo day. Catch a ride on the tram all the way from the parking lot to the Farm, ooh and aah over adorable chicks, ducklings, piglets, calves, and lambs, and watch your kids go nose-to-nose with goat kids!
Animal Photography Explorers ($500+)
Saturday, May 17, 2014, 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Minnesota Zoo Trustee Chet Ellingson and Education employee Galen Sjostrom know a thing or two about taking great photos at the Zoo, and they're looking forward to sharing their insights with you. DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA -- we'll start with a short introduction and some tips, then we'll go onto Zoo grounds for some guided practice.
There is no additional fee to attend Friends events, but space may be limited and pre-registration is required. Registration opens exactly one month prior to each event, at which point an email reminder will be sent to everyone at the appropriate Friends level and above.
