My examination of the tiger in custody has yielded a very interesting discovery. The tiger has a transponder under the skin of its left shoulder blade. Upon closer inspection, we also found a faint tattoo that we can't read on its inner right thigh. According to my scan, its transponder code is #0001E758A. (You can learn more about transponders in the Captive Management section of the Tiger Handbook.) This transponder indicates that the tiger was born in a zoo which manages tigers for conservation. I'd suggest that we contact the Sumatran Tiger Species Survival Plan (SSP) coordinator (I think his name is Barry Grady--he was quoted in the newspaper recently) to find out more about this tiger. Medical History Report - Summary for Individual Specimen SAN GABRIEL ZOO ================================================================ PE: No fleas noted. In good flesh. Weight 115 kg. Dental calculus on premolars and molars. PM1 tooth on lower right arcade is fractured at gingival surface, roots are firmly embedded in bone. Removed upper part of tooth, roots left in at this time. Transponder found intrascapularly (0001E758A); unreadable tattoo on right inner thigh. ECG: Appears normal. ECHOCARDIOGREAM: No pathology noted. No evidence of PDA or aortic stenosis. PLAN: Dental exam, clean and polish, remove tooth roots of PM1 on lower right in 6 months. Earlier of problems.
