School Special Event Days

These cross curriculum days showcase how the Minnesota Zoo is a wonderful learning environment for multiple areas of study. Activity stations, music and special guests help immerse your students into the theme of the day.

Math Day

Tues., November 8, 2011 - Elementary grade level students
9:00am to 1:30pm
Wed., November 9, 2011 - Secondary grade level students
9:00am to 1:30pm

How many fish does a 400 lb. dolphin eat daily? Math Day has been designed to inspire students grades 4-12 to learn more about how math is applied in the zoo workplace. Through both professional and student-led activity stations, students will answer grade appropriate math problems related to a wide variety of animal issues, exhibit upkeep and everyday life at the Minnesota Zoo.

Geography Day

Friday, November 18, 2011
9:00am to 1:00pm

Come finish up national Geography Week here at the Minnesota Zoo. Visit the variety of interactive stations throughout the Zoo showcasing our worldly animals. Students are given passports to assist them in their travels as they learn about some of the world’s Biodiversity Hotspots, the variety of worldwide ecosystems and the animals that inhabit them.

Fees:
K-6th grade admission $8.00/student (this includes the $5.00 K-6th student rate plus $3.00 school event fee).
7-12th grade admission $10.00/student (this includes the $7.00 7-12th grade admission plus $3.00 school event fee.)

What animal is called el oso del Sol? How about le castor or der delphin? Plan a field trip to the Zoo with your language students and discover fascinating facts about these and other Zoo animals, all in the language of the day. You and your students can visit over 30 animal stations throughout the Zoo. Upper level language students use music, costumes, and props to interpret the animal exhibits. Your students each receive a "passport" which gets stamped after listening to the presenter at each station. All days are geared toward language students in grades 7-12 and elementary immersion students.

Celebrate this Earth Day by exploring the importance of protecting endangered species. Discover everyday actions that help protect our nation's disappearing wildlife and last remaining open space.
