Minnesota Zoo to Host EarthFest Celebration

Party for the Planet to be held April 19 & 20, 2008

Apple Valley, MINN –– It’s a jungle out there–and we need to do everything we can to help protect and preserve our planet for all living things. Join the Minnesota Zoo as it celebrates “all things green” during EarthFest, a party for the planet, on April 19 & 20, 2008 from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

This weekend, presented by Waste Management, will highlight hands-on, eco-friendly activities for everyone. Find out more about recycling, composting, green building, and sustainable living. The event will include music and crafts, and will showcase the Minnesota Zoo’s conservation efforts in its backyard and across the globe.

EarthFest Schedule at the Minnesota Zoo, April 19 & 20:
11 a.m. Bird Migration Keeper Talk
11 a.m.–2 p.m. Booth Displays; local conservation and environmental organizations
11 a.m.–3 p.m. Craft Activities for Kids
Noon, 1 p.m. & 2 p.m. Music by “Kidpower with Rachael”
1 p.m. Cotton-Top Tamarin Keeper Talk

The Minnesota Zoo, located in Apple Valley and open 363 days per year, is just a short drive from the Mall of America. Located on 500 beautiful acres, the Zoo is home to more than 2,300 animals representing nearly 450 species from around the world. More than one million guests visit the Zoo each year, enjoying the Tropics Trail, Minnesota Trail, Northern Trail, Discovery Bay, Wells Fargo Family Farm, and the Monorail. The Coral Reef Dive Show, World of Birds Show, and Shark Reef Feedings bring guests up-close and personal with many exotic and domestic creatures. On June 7, 2008, the Minnesota Zoo will open Russia's Grizzly Coast, a first-of-its-kind landmark exhibit featuring grizzly bears, sea otters, Amur leopards, and wild boar. The Minnesota Zoo, accredited by the AZA, provides award-winning recreational, educational and conservation programs, locally, nationally and internationally. The Minnesota Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA).
