Member Categories and Purchases

How do I know which category is best for me?
There are many different categories to choose from. Complete descriptions are available on the membership order page.
Can I change my membership to a higher category?
Yes, you may upgrade your membership to a higher category at anytime. The membership expiration date will remain the same and a fee will be charged for the difference in price.
Does the Zoo have discounted memberships?
Discounted memberships are available when purchasing a quantity of 10 or more.
How soon can I use my membership when I purchase online or at the Zoo?
You can use your membership the same day. When you join online you will receive an e-mail confirmation to use as your temporary membership card during your Zoo visit. When you purchase at the Zoo your membership starts immediately and you will not be charged for parking or general admission. You will be given a temporary card which is valid for two months, to keep until your permanent cards arrive in the mail.

Gift Memberships

Can I purchase a membership as a gift for someone else?
Yes. A gift membership is an option when purchasing a membership. Membership cards can be sent to you or your gift recipient, you decide. Holiday gifts being sent directly to the member are mailed starting December 15.

Member Benefits

Do members pay for parking?
No. Parking is free to members during regular Zoo hours. Members who attend concerts will be asked to pay for parking during that time.
Is my membership good at other zoos?
The Minnesota Zoo membership entitles you to free or discounted admission to more than 100 Zoos across the country. We encourage you to call the facility prior to your visit to confirm your benefits.
Is there a members only lane for Zoo entrance?
Yes. The members only lane is open at all entrances during the busy season, Memorial Day through Labor Day. The lane is also open on weekends from September through May. To expedite this service have your current card, temporary card or e-mail purchase confirmation and photo ID with you.
Do members receive a discount at Great Clips IMAX theatre?
Yes. Each person covered by the membership card will receive a $2 discount per show.
Can I bring a guest to member events?
Member events are for members only. If friends would like to attend they may purchase a membership prior to the event. Membership categories which include additional guest(s) may bring guest(s) to member events.

Membership Cards

How long does it take to receive my member cards?
Cards will arrive in approximately 1 week from online, mail or phone purchases. Memberships purchased at the Zoo include a temporary card which is valid for up to 8 weeks. During that time e your permanent cards will arrive in the mail.
How many cards will I receive?
You will receive a card for each named adult on the card.
Can I use my membership without my member card?
Yes, but to use the membership lane you are required to have an active membership card, temporary card or e-mail confirmation. Use the general admission lane and your membership will be verified by staff at the Guest and Membership Services counter. Replacement cards can be purchased at that time for a fee of $3.
Can I change the names on my membership?
The names listed on a membership may be changed if there has been a change in the family’s circumstances, such as a death, move, or a change in relationship status. Name change requests, including the reason for change, must be sent in writing to the Minnesota Zoo, Membership Office, 13000 Zoo Blvd. Apple Valley, MN 55124 along with the number of cards that were issued.

Member Privacy and Rights

Will my mailing address be sold?
No. On occasion the Zoo may exchange a mailing list with a like organization for a one time mailing for the purpose of acquiring new members. The list is sent to a safe mail house and is not retained by the organization or mail house. You may contact us at zoo.members@state.mn.us to have your mailing information withheld.
How will my e-mail address be used?
The membership office sends Zoo E-News on the first and third Thursday of each month. (The schedule may vary on occasion). Renewal notices are sent by E-mail with special offers for renewing early. The Minnesota Zoo does not sell or exchange E-mail addresses. You may opt out of E-mail correspondence at anytime.
