The Development Intern for Events assists the Minnesota Zoo Foundation with various projects including event planning and coordination, donor mailings, special projects, database management, prospect research and analysis, and writing assistance. This internship offers a broad range of hands-on learning opportunities in a major development office.
Hours: 10-25/week
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general support to the MZF staff in preparation for the annual black-tie gala, The Beastly Ball. Provide support to staff during the event.
- Research and analyze prospective donors.
- Assist with entry and tracking of silent auction items for the Beastly Ball. This includes writing catalog descriptions and getting descriptions approved by committee members and MZF staff.
- Assist with drafting acknowledgement letters for Beastly Ball Auction Purchases, Donations, and Registrations.
- Provide general assistance to development staff, e.g., preparing mailings, updating and maintaining database, filing, and other duties as assigned.
- Assist with researching prospective contributors in support of staff solicitation strategies for these prospects.
- Provide event support for additional donor-related events held by the Minnesota Zoo Foundation.
- Special projects related to the Minnesota Zoo, communications with donors, and others as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications
EDUCATION: High school diploma required. Currently enrolled in or recently completed a bachelor degree with a major or related course work in non profits, business, or related field.
EXPERIENCE: Prior paid or volunteer clerical or administrative support experience in a non-profit, education or cultural environment a plus.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY: Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, excellent phone manner and communication skills, ability to work well under pressure and to deadline. Computer aptitude required, with Microsoft Office experience preferred. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge software helpful. A flexible team-worker. Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

office equipment.
