Volunteer Services Summer Internship at the Minnesota Zoo Volunteer Internenship

Be an integral member of our Minnesota Zoo team providing memories of a lifetime for our zoo guests. As an intern in the Volunteer Services Program, you will spend your day traveling back in time at Dinosaurs!, an exhibit of 20 replica life-size dinos ranging from Apatosaurus to a Tyrannosaurus Rex. As you travel along the trail to Africa, you’ll discover giraffe, ostrich, wildebeest and more at this African Savannah Exhibit where you will assist with giraffe cracker feedings and share information about these impressive species. Circling back to the Minnesota Trail and the Wells Fargo Family Farm, you will learn and talk about animals in our own “back forty” – how many lynx or puma have you seen in the wild? And at the Wells Fargo Family Farm, you will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with animals by grooming a goat, handling a piglet or giving a rabbit demonstration.

Summer Internship:

Approximately 400 hours between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Work week 35- 40 hour week from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. including some weekends & holidays. Start and end dates are somewhat flexible. College credit required. Unpaid internship, four positions available.

Duties to include:

  • Observe behind-the-scenes activities
  • Interact with a variety of zoo staff and volunteers
  • Enhance your public speaking skills
  • Present programs for zoo visitors
  • Gain experience with different styles of interpretation
  • Become familiar with the management of a large volunteer program
  • Spend your summer outdoors at the Minnesota Zoo
  • Up close contact with farm animals
  • Training provided
