Thinking about summer vacation already? Wondering what you can do that's different and exciting. How about becoming a Zooteen at the Minnesota Zoo? Zooteens assist with our Summer Camp Program as camp aides helping the Zoo's Naturalist Staff. Duties include snack preparation, participation in tours and learning activities, assisting with craft projects, and interacting with children in the camps to encourage their involvement in the session. Applications for summer 2008 will be accepted after January 1, 2008
Zooteen Candidates Must be...
-
A middle or high-school student with a 2.0 GPA and between the ages of 13 and 18 by May 1 of 2008
- Able to attend an Interview Session and attend Zooteen training in the spring of 2008
- Willing to volunteer three weeks during the summer season
While the Zooteen Program operates primarily the summer months of the year, Zooteens who have completed the training are invited throughout the year to help with children's craft projects and costume characters for special events and holiday activities. Please note that acceptance into this program involves a selection process, and not all teenagers who apply will be accepted into the program.

Russia’s Grizzly Coast, a major new exhibit planned to feature grizzly bears, sea otters, wild boar, and Amur leopards is set to open in June of 2008. Summer Seasonal Volunteers will be recruited and trained to provide information and experiences for young and old alike creating memories for a lifetime. You might “dig in” and help children discover bones in our great Mammoth Dig Site for an hour. Moving on from that site, you may discuss current conservation issues surrounding one of the world’s most endangered species, the Amur leopard. And then you may spend the rest of your day at the Zoo assisting the keeper staff with otter and bear presentations. You can visit the construction progress of Russia’s Grizzly Coast by going to the homepage of this website and clicking on Russia’s Grizzly Coast.
