Membership Frequently Asked Questions

Is my membership payment tax deductible?
Yes. Your payment, less the fair market value of the benefits you receive, is deductible for income tax purposes. Under Internal Revenue Service guidelines, the estimated value of standard-level membership benefits is not substantial; therefore the full amount of your payment is a deductible contribution. The Minnesota Zoo's Federal Tax ID # is 41-600-7162. Please contact the Zoo's Membership Office at 952-431-9478 for additional information.

What is the new Dual Membership?
The Dual membership provides a new option. You may choose to name one member and bring an additional guest with each visit – just like the Individual Plus category used to offer. The second option is to name two members (who live at the same address) instead of bringing a free guest with each visit.
How do I update my mailing address or email address or talk with a membership representative?
Contact us with your old and new information. Talk with a representative by calling 952.431.9304.
How do I know which category is best for me?
There are many different categories to choose from. Complete descriptions are available on the membership page.
Can I change my membership to a higher category?
Yes, you may upgrade your membership to a higher category at anytime. The membership expiration date will remain the same and a fee will be charged for the difference in price.
What is the difference between a Zoo Membership and Friends of the Minnesota Zoo?
Friends of the Minnesota Zoo is a giving society for those who donate $250 or more to the Minnesota Zoo Foundation. Friends of the Minnesota Zoo receive all of the benefits of membership, additional Friends benefits, PLUS two free guests each visit. More Information
Does the Zoo have discounted memberships?
Discounted memberships are available when purchasing a quantity of 10 or more.
How soon can I use my membership when I purchase online or at the Zoo?
You may use your membership the day you purchase it. When you join online you will receive an e-mail confirmation to use as your temporary membership card during your Zoo visit. When you purchase at the Zoo your membership starts immediately and you will not be charged for parking or general admission. You will be provided with a temporary card which is valid for two months, please keep your temporary card until your permanent cards arrive in the mail.
Can I purchase a membership as a gift for someone else?
Yes. There are two options for gift giving:
Membership Card: Provide your gift recipient’s name and address to receive permanent membership cards. Cards may be mailed to you or your gift recipient.
Membership Gift Card: No names listed, and gift card will be mailed to the purchaser. It is activated during the recipient’s first zoo visit, and information is collected at that time for the annual membership cards.
Do members pay for parking?
No. Parking is free to members during regular Zoo hours. Members who attend concerts will be asked to pay for parking during that time.
Is my membership good at other zoos?
The Minnesota Zoo membership entitles you to discounted admission to more than 90 zoos across the country. We encourage you to call the facility prior to your visit to confirm your benefits.
When is the Members Lane open for zoo entrance
Saturday & Sunday during the months of September - May and daily Memorial weekend to Labor Day. To expedite this service have your current card, temporary card or e-mail purchase confirmation and photo ID with you.
Do members receive a discount at Great Clips IMAX theatre?
Yes. Each person covered by the membership card will receive a $2 discount per show.
Can I bring a guest to member events?
Member events are for members only. If friends would like to attend they may purchase a membership prior to the event. Membership categories which include additional guest(s) may bring guest(s) to member events.
How long does it take to receive my member cards?
Cards will arrive in approximately 1 week from online, mail or phone purchases. Memberships purchased at the Zoo include a temporary card which is valid for up to 8 weeks. During that time your permanent cards will arrive in the mail.
How many cards will I receive?
You will receive a card for each named adult on the card.
Can I use my membership without my member card?
Please be considerate of others and do not use the Members Lane without a membership card, temporary card or email confirmation. Use the general admission lane and your membership will be verified by staff at the Guest and Membership Services counter. Replacement cards can be purchased at that time for a fee of $3.
What do I do if I lose my membership card?
You can order a new membership card the next time you visit the zoo, or by calling the membership office at 952.431.9304. There is a $3 processing fee for each replacement membership card.
Can I change the names on my membership?
The names listed on a membership may be changed if there has been a change in the family’s circumstances, such as a death, move, or a change in relationship status. Name change requests, including the reason for change, must be sent in writing to the Minnesota Zoo, Membership Office, 13000 Zoo Blvd. Apple Valley, MN 55124 along with the original cards that were issued.
