February – The Month to be at the Minnesota Zoo
Warm tropics trail, educational and family events await

Apple Valley, MN – February 1, 2012 – Escape the cold and gray weather by warming up at the Minnesota Zoo this month! Visit the lush Tropics Trail, take in a dolphin training session or a shark feeding, and attend one of our many events. Don’t forget to submit your entry for our new “Do the Waddle” video contest.

“Do the Waddle” Facebook Video Contest (now through February 29)
The Minnesota Zoo just launched its first-ever Facebook “Do The Waddle” video contest, celebrating the penguins of the Zoo’s newest exhibit – 3M Penguins of the African Coast. During the month of February, Facebook fans are welcome to upload their best waddle dance video for a chance to win a $500 Best Buy gift card. Details can be found at www.facebook.com/mnzoo.

Speaker Series: The Art and Science of Animal Training (February 12)
Speaker Steve Martin started his career at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in 1976 and in 1980, setup the first bird show at the Minnesota Zoo. Since that time he has worked at over 85 zoological facilities in 16 countries. Steve pursues his mission of inspiring caring and conservation action through the production of educational animal programs, and through teaching animal keepers and trainers the most current animal training techniques and philosophies. Love Tour: February 14 (Zoo Private Event; age 21+)
The Minnesota Zoo’s annual Valentine’s Day event is a perfect way to spend a romantic evening out.  This year’s evening event will again provide a glimpse into the private lives of a variety of animals.  From courtship to breeding, our furry, feathered, and scaly animals, indulge in exotic romantic rituals.  For adults only, the Love Tour is a one-of-a-kind experience.  After your tour

Tropical Beach Party: February 18-20 (for everyone to enjoy)
It’s all about the sand!  Bring the whole family to our Tropics Trail winter get away over the long holiday weekend. We’ll supply the giant indoor sandbox, palm trees, exotic animals and more.  Get a hug from Snoopy, enjoy calypso music, get your face painted, and listen to zookeepers talk about our unique animals.
