Brookfield Zoo’s Dolphins Relocated to Minnesota Zoo During Home Makeover Apple Valley, MINN – August 31, 2009: – Three dolphins from Brookfield Zoo in Chicago have arrived at the Minnesota Zoo, where they will be housed until spring 2010 when a remodel of their home is complete. Carefully tended to by a team of animal care professionals, dolphins “Tapeko,” 27; “Noelani,” 5; and “Allison,” 3 traveled aboard a FedEx airplane Sunday night to Minneapolis. “The move went very smoothly,” said Minnesota Zoo Marine Mammal Supervisor Diane Fusco. “We are excited to have the Brookfield Zoo’s dolphins and their staff here while their facility is being remodeled.”
Initially while they acclimate to the new facility, the three new additions will be kept separate from the Minnesota Zoo’s dolphins: “April,” 42; “Allie,” 22; “Spree, 7,” and “Semo,” 45. Eventually, they may be integrated together. Six trainers from the Chicago Zoological Society (CZS), which manages Brookfield Zoo, will stay with the dolphins in Apple Valley to assist in their care and provide continuity in their training. While the dolphins are away, CZS will do a total makeover to its 20-year-old Seven Seas dolphin arena. Minnesota Zoo Discovery Bay Stadium Schedule:
