July Brings Troops, Butterflies and "Year of the Farm" to the Minnesota Zoo
Apple Valley, MINN – July 1, 2010 – The Minnesota Zoo kicks off the steamy month of July with Military Family Week, followed by a backyard lecture series on butterflies and the Family Farm Festival at the Wells Fargo Family Farm.
Military Family Week—June 28-July 4
The Zoo salutes our troops with special discounts this week, including free admission for military personnel (active, retired, and civilian) as well as half-priced admission for family members. This includes free parking, food and retail discounts, half price Monorail, and 2 for 1 IMAX tickets. Proof of military service is required.
Backyard Lecture Series –July 14
The Minnesota Zoo hosts the Backyard Lecture Series “Attracting Butterflies” on July 14 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Minnesota Zoo presenters include Kim Thomas, horticultural supervisor; Rebecca Montalbano, horticulturist; and Cale Nordmeyer, butterfly naturalist who will share tips on how to garden to attract butterflies. Come learn how to create a garden that butterflies will love! Admission is free; please register online at mnzoo.org.
Family Farm Festival—July 24-25
The Minnesota Zoo is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Wells Fargo Family Farm. During the Family Farm Festival, there will be music and kids’ activities each day. Stop by the Dairy Farm for a cow milking demonstration or take a ride on the farm tram. Don’t forget to see the newest animals at the Farm – Percheron horses “Bo” and “Luke” – who are now on exhibit.
